Released Gillingham defender Ryan Jackson will be playing League 1 football again this season.
Jackson’s second spell with the Gills ended in relegation to League 2 last season after making 37 appearances in all competitions for the club. He wasn’t offered a new deal this summer and has been snapped up by Cheltenham Town.
Cheltenham finished 15th in League 1 last term and Jackson is their sixth new addition of the summer.
He left the Gills after making 148 league appearances over this two stints at Priestfield, firstly between 2015 and 2017 and for the past two season. Inbetween those years he was at Colchester United.
The right-back, now aged 31, joins just over a week before the season starts.
He said: “There's a short space of time until the season starts, but I'm really looking forward to getting started.
"I feel like my experience can help the team and contribute to winning games, but this season is a challenge I'm looking forward to taking on."
Former Gills loanee Dan Adshead has also joined Cheltenham this summer, signing from Norwich City for an undisclosed fee. His loan spell at Priestfield was cut short because of injury.
Another player who left the Gills since the season ended, youngster Josh Chambers, has been training with Tottenham’s under-21s. He was offered a professional deal at the club after completing his youth scholarship and enjoying minutes with the first team but was lured away with interest from a higher level.
