Defender Haji Mnoga has ended his loan spell with Gillingham and returned to Portsmouth.

Mnoga joined the Gills on a deal for the season but the clubs have agreed to break that arrangement now after a tough time for the young defender with the League 2 side.

Mnoga, 20, made just five appearance for the Gills, four in the league, the first of which saw him sent off just 10 minutes into his debut. He picked up two bookings for two early fouls in the match against Swindon Town.

He was substituted in his second appearance at half-time and only made late appearances in his next two, leaving him with just over an hour’s worth of Football League experience during the four months of his stay.

Mnoga came off the bench against AFC Fylde in the FA Cup in mid-November, his last appearance for the club. His departure was confirmed by Gills boss Neil Harris on Friday during his weekly press briefing.

Having played for parent club Portsmouth earlier this season, he’ll now be unable to sign for another EFL side but could be a target for National League sides.

His parent club Portsmouth are currently without a manager after sacking Danny Cowley.

Gillingham have also seen goalkeeper Glenn Morris return to Crawley Town after his loan spell ended.
