Boss Justin Edinburgh wants to draw a line under Gillingham’s FA Cup nightmare and get on with challenging for promotion.

Edinburgh was so angry after Gills’ first-round defeat at League 2 Stevenage last weekend that he had the players in for training on Sunday.

He saw an improvement in attitude against Yeovil in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night – a tie Gillingham lost on penalties – and the matter is closed. The focus now switches to Saturday's home game against Bury.

Edinburgh said: “I don’t want to keep going on about Saturday. It was a one-off.

“We’re talking nearly 40 games here and 39 of them have been absolutely fantastic.

“I was critical of myself and the players of the way we approached the game and our attitude. That was corrected on Tuesday night, we addressed it and moved on and look forward to Bury."

A loan move for a striker from a Championship club fell through last week but Edinburgh will keep looking.

He said: “It would help if we could go and bring another striker to the club to give us a different option, a different approach but it’s not always easy this time of year to pluck someone who’s going to get you five or 10 goals in a short period of time.

“We are looking at it, we are taking in games and trying hard but I’ve always said I wouldn’t bring someone here for the sake of it.

He added: “Every time we talk to a team or ask about a player, that player seems to go on a bit of a run and force his way into the parent club’s first team and that’s what the striker has done."
