Manager Justin Edinburgh is confident his Gills team can rediscover their winning form on the road.

Back-to-back defeats have dented Gillingham’s hopes of automatic promotion from League 1.

They now face two away games in the next few days, with a trip to Fleetwood on Tuesday followed by a game at Scunthorpe on Saturday having picked up just one point from their last four fixtures on the road.

“We are capable of putting a run together away from home,” insisted Edinburgh.

“We have been to some really tough places and got some excellent wins so we know we are capable. It is not something we haven’t achieved. We are positive."

Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Chesterfield was an unexpected blow for a side who prior to the game had lost just once at home in the league. However they finished strongly, something Edinburgh hopes will help them ahead of a busy few days away.

He said: “With the way we finished the game, we will take that incentive and initiative into two tough away games.

"Any promotion team will always look back at their home form to get them over the line. The away form is an added bonus. If you win your home games and draw away that takes you up."

The Gills are without John Egan and Doug Loft, while Bradley Dack could also be missing through injury.
