Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh questioned Scunthorpe’s conduct after Saturday’s rain-delayed defeat at Glanford Park.

The game was 26 minutes old when torrential rain forced play to be suspended, with standing water all over the pitch giving referee Andy Haines little choice but to take the players off.

Ground staff – assisted by some of the Gills substitutes – spent 30 minutes sweeping the pitch after which play resumed.

The game eventually finished at 5.20pm.

Edinburgh said: "We conducted ourselves correctly as we always do.

"I’m not sure whether other parties, once the game continued, did, but that’s for everyone else to have an opinion on.

"My players and my staff conducted ourselves correctly. When we were asked to leave the pitch, we kept ourselves in the dressing room, waited for the decision to be made and once it was, we continued with the game.

"After that, perhaps some people didn’t conduct themselves correctly.

"We conducted ourselves impeccably.

"Never once did we cause a problem for the ref in terms of the game continuing. We could have done because when it was started, I didn’t think it was ready to be started – but we went ahead with that.

"Certain parties didn’t conduct themselves correctly in the second half."
