19:20, 06 November 2017

Gillingham have been handed a home tie against League 2 Carlisle in the FA Cup second round.

The draw was made on Monday evening with Kent's other representatives, Maidstone, given an away match at MK Dons of League 1.

The ties are due to be played on the weekend of December 2/3 with a place in the third round - and a potential clash against a Premier League giant at stake for the winners.

Gills are in the second round of the FA Cup for the first time since the 2012/13 season, when they lost 2-0 at Preston, following a 2-1 home win over Leyton Orient in round one on Saturday.

Steve Lovell's side will be looking to reach the third round for the first time since 2011/12, when they were knocked out by Premier League Stoke at Priestfield.

Maidstone produced one of the shocks of the first round when they won 4-2 at League 2 Cheltenham on Saturday.

Stones are in the second round for the second time in just four seasons, losing 3-1 at Wrexham at this stage in the 2014/15 season.

Charlton have been drawn away to League 1 rivals AFC Wimbledon.
