Sides from the Southern Counties East League were involved in no less than six penalty shoot-outs in the FA Vase First Qualifying Round.

The most dramatic finale perhaps came in an all-Southern Counties East League tie where Punjab United went through against Bearsted.

Tommy Penfold put Bears ahead on the hour mark but Will Johnson-Cole equalised in stoppage time to force penalties – no extra-time is played this season – and Punjab won on spot-kicks.

Lydd Town went through on spot-kicks at home to Broadbridge Heath following a 1-1 draw, Olinto Santo scoring for Lydd.

Stansfeld also went through on spot-kicks against Knaphill but Snodland, FC Elmstead and Crowborough were all knocked out on penalties.

Hollands & Blair crashed out 4-2 at Horley Town. Ben Brown put Blair ahead but then conceded a spot-kick which saw the hosts level. Blair trailed 3-1 in the second half before Brown’s second goal gave them hope but Horley ended up adding a fourth.

Miles Cornwell scored for Tunbridge Wells but they tasted defeat for the first time this season, losing 2-1 at K Sports.

Greenways were on the wrong end of a nine-goal thriller against Worthing United, losing 5-4.

Aaron Kleman’s penalty, Simon Walton, an own goal and Brad Cross were not enough for Greenways who led 3-1 at one stage in the first half.

Meridian, SC Thamesmead and AFC Croydon all lost on the road – as did Rusthall, who trailed 3-0 at half-time to Raynes Park Vale before second-half goals from Louis Anderson and Cam Gyeabour set up a tense finale.

Holmesdale got the better of Kent Football United with a 4-2 victory, Sam Adenola, Shameek Farrell, Nathan Palmer and an own goal doing the damage.

There were home wins for Erith & Belvedere and Fisher but Beckenham were knocked out at home by Littlehampton Town.

Winning teams picked up £550 in prize money with the Second Qualifying Round due to take place on Saturday, October 10.
