Boss Peter Taylor felt the 1-1 draw against Crawley Town was a fair result.

A point wasn't enough to stop Gillingham dropping into the bottom four in League 1 after a seventh game without a win.

But they improved after a slow start, with Leon Legge's header earning a point.

Taylor said: "It was a fair result. I think both teams had some good chances.

"We didn't start very well but I thought we got better. Not maybe enough to win the match but I thought we created some good chances and with a little bit of luck we might have nicked it."

Taylor rejected suggestions Gills need to be beating clubs like mid-table Crawley.

He added: "That's a lack of respect for Crawley. I don’t see that. Any team in the division is a hard match. It doesn't mean it’s an automatic win if you’re playing a (certain) team."

Gills’ second-half improvement was brought about by a change in system that saw Bradley Dack introduced for winger Jermaine McGlashan, boosting the home midfield.

They were the better team after the break and had chances to pinch victory.

Taylor said: "We just had to change our shape a little bit because Crawley had the better of the midfield and so we wanted to an extra body into that area.

"There’s been many a time where we haven't created too much but I think we created a few chances today where we could have got more than one goal."
