Medway-based Kent Charity Boxing training more novice fighters in preparation for December Lordswood fundraiser

Medway-based Kent Charity Boxing are warming up for their next big event.
Another group of novice fighters will take to the ring on Saturday, December 10.
Boxers are receiving eight weeks of free training through former professional Nick Seager in preparation for the Matchup Promotions show at the Lordswood Leisure Centre.
Darryl Francis-Wright, 24, is one of those who will be boxing on the night, now gearing up for his second show after winning on his first charity event outing.
He turned to boxing after coming out of the army. Having been in foster care since the age of eight, it was tough for him to adapt back to life in a one-bed flat in Greenwich.
“I didn’t cope well and got depressed,” he said. “I didn’t know many people and got into money problems so my foster parents said to come back and live with them.”
He is training to be a barber but needed something else, which is when he discovered Kent Charity Boxing. He had represented Medway & Maidstone at 100m and 200m.
“I was still feeling down and depressed then along came the opportunity to learn how to box and keep fit for charity and I love it,” he said.
“It’s built my confidence and I’ve made lots of friends. Everyone is so encouraging, especially Darren Claydon (one of the organisers). He was the first person I met at the boxing gym and he’s always encouraged and looked after me and the boxers.
“I feel like I have been given a second chance at life and it feels amazing, helping to gain money for charity as well.”
Tickets are on sale, priced £30 standing, £45 VIP and £55 for a place at a table with food.
Any wannabe boxers keen on getting involved with Kent Charity Boxing can find them on Facebook. Money raised from the event is going towards the family of a young girl undergoing cancer treatment - having already overcome the disease once and the removal of a kidney - which involves chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and radiotherapy.
