Caretaker boss Steve Lovell hailed it as a massive point gained against Bury.

The Gills had to come from a goal down to claim a draw against a team sitting below them in the League 1 table.

But Lovell was never expecting an easy ride.

He said: “In the first half they caused us a lot of problems, they played some really good stuff. They have some real quality players which is why I was a bit concerned going into the game.

“They have a caretaker manager and everyone wants to prove themselves.

“First half they played well without really finishing off that many chances but second half our boys were magnificent, absolutely brilliant.

“We had one or two really good opportunities, before Josh got his goal, and had we got one earlier in the second half I think we would have gone onto win it.

“It is a massive point. Lee Martin (the Gills captain) came in at the end and said it could be massive for us and I think he is right.

“When you are playing teams down at the bottom you don’t want them to overtake you, or to get too far ahead of you.

“We want to win games and we will win more than we lose if we keep playing the way we are.

“Maybe the first half was down to ourselves, why they were in the game, we weren’t good enough on the ball and when we had it we gave it back to them.

“We have come back from a goal down and got a point against a very good Bury side, one of the best footballing sides in the first half that we have had down here, apart from Wigan.

“They shouldn’t be down the bottom of the table, with their aspirations. They are a top three or four team in the league. Saying that, I’m disappointed we didn’t get all three points after the second half performance.”
