Ady Pennock admitted to feeling frustrated after seeing his Gillingham team fail to build on a first-half lead.

Deji Oshilaja put Pennock's side ahead at the end of the opening half but the Gills then allowed visitors Shrewsbury back into the game.

Gills head coach Pennock said: “I am a little frustrated after going in 1-0 up. I don’t think we were on our front foot (second half), especially from the back, we kept going deeper and deeper and weren’t in their faces enough.

“I thought they dictated play more in the second half than we did.

“I was just disappointed with the way we went on our back foot, rather than the front. We had chances to maybe do better.”

New signing for the Gills

Both teams had good goalscoring chances with Gills keeper Stuart Nelson and his Shrewsbury counterpart Jayson Leutwiler making saves.

Pennock said: “It was a fairly open game and I am not a fan of fairly open games.

“I thought Bradley Dack and Cody McDonald played really well together, they caused them a lot of trouble, especially first half, with the movement.

“We got the ball down in better places. I still think we can do that better and we have to be braver on the ball. I know the pitch was lively – I’m not complaining about it with the frost we’ve had – but it was difficult to get the ball down and play in good areas.

“The result last week (at Sheffield United) gave us a lot of belief and this is another point. We want three points, especially after being 1-0 up, but we could have lost it in the second half.

“You have to give them credit, they are a decent side and are on a high after winning the last two or three games (before the weekend) and they are in confident mood. Let’s be positive and look at it as a point gained.”
