Gillingham have signed Enfield Town’s prolific forward Marcus Wyllie.
Wyllie is fresh from promotion after helping his former team to play-off final success against Chatham Town back in May, helping his team to win a place in the National South this season.
Wyllie, 25, scored in that play-off final at Chatham in a 3-0 win for the visitors - his 34th goal of the season in all competitions. He also finished the season with 15 assists.
His 30 league goals led to him winning the Isthmian Premier Division golden boot.
Former clubs include Berkhamsted Comrades and Apoel Nicosia’s academy.
He joined Enfield in the summer of 2022 after moving up from step-five side Risborough Rangers, having hit 36 goals for them in the 2021/22 campaign.
His first season for Enfield saw him net just four goals before he found his form in front of goal again the following year.
Gillingham have now offered him the chance to see what he can do in the Football League. The Gills play at Dartford on Tuesday night.
Gills’ director of football Kenny Jackett said: “This is a really significant signing for us. As a community club we have a responsibility to scour the various leagues and recruit players who we believe have a bright future and can add depth to our squad.
"We have done our due diligence on Marcus, he is a strong hardworking lad who had a prolific season with Enfield Town and I have no doubt he is the type of player that Gillingham fans will enjoy watching.
"Our recruitment team are working very hard when it comes to spotting talent in our region who have the capabilities to play at our level, and possibly even higher. We are giving players the opportunity to show what they can do and we will continue to work hard to add quality to our existing setup.”
