Gillingham have announced the departure of youth manager Craig Stone.

The former Gills player had been in charge of the under-18 and 23s since the summer of 2019.

Stone combined his role at the Gills with being a player/coach at Isthmian League South East side Hastings United.

His last game was Gillingham’s county cup fixture against Whitstable Town in the week.

Academy manager Bryan Bull, who is expected to take over the youth team while an appointment is made, said: “The fixture marked Craig Stone’s last one in charge of the group as he moves onto pastures new. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Craig and I’m sure you will join me in wishing him well in the future.”

Stone was a youth scholar himself at Priestfield and went onto play 15 league games for the club between 2005 and 2008.

He had previously been involved with the Gillingham ladies academy. It's understood Stone wants more time to concentrate on his teaching qualifications.

Gillingham are welcoming applications for the role of professional development coach/youth team manager. Those who apply must have completed the UEFA A Licence and the Advanced Youth Award to be considered for the position. closing date for applicants is on Monday (October 25).
