Gillingham will face one of their League 1 rivals in the area semi-finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

The Gills made it through to the southern section last four after a 2-1 win over Crawley Town on Tuesday night.

Coventry City are also through after they beat Plymouth Argyle 2-0 on Wednesday night.

Making up the last four are League 1 rivals Bristol City – who knocked the Gills out of the FA Cup last week and the League Cup last season – and this weekend’s opponents Leyton Orient.

The final of the Football League Trophy is played at Wembley, where the winners of the southern section will meet the northern winners.

Gillingham, who have beaten Stevenage and Colchester in previous rounds, will find out who they meet in the area semi-finals when the draw is made on Sky Sports’ Soccer AM show on Saturday morning.

Area semi-finals will be played on the week commencing December 8. Winners of those games will meet in area finals which are played over two legs.

In the north section, Tranmere Rovers and Walsall are through to the semi-finals. They will be joined by the winners of the matches between Doncaster and Notts County on November 18 and Oldham against Preston (November 25).
