Gillingham are interested in bringing Bradley Garmston back to Priestfield.
The 21-year-old left-back impressed at Gillingham last season while on loan from Premier League West Bromwich Albion.
He played seven games for the Gills before returning to the Baggies after picking up a hamstring injury.
Gills boss Justin Edinburgh is pursuing a number of new signings for the new campaign and he confirmed Garmston is on his radar.
“He is a quality player and someone who would interest us,” Edinburgh said.
Garmston is a free agent after being released by West Brom.
Gills’ only senior recruit of the summer so far is former Newport right-back Ryan Jackson.
Edinburgh is confident that by the start of pre-season a handful of new signings will be in place as he looks to put together an 18-19-man squad.
“It’s going well,” he said.
“I’ve met a lot of players and representatives and spoke with a lot of people since the end of the season.
“We have to be patient, we have to make sure we are getting value for money and we have to make sure it’s the right player.”
