Gillingham caretaker boss Steve Lovell has enlisted the help of coach Jason Lillis.
The Gills are short of first-team coaching staff following the management changes in recent weeks.
Former defender Ian Cox has been assisting but Lovell highlighted the work done by another ex-player Lillis in recent days.
Lovell said: “Jason has been working with the boys on compactness without the ball and how quickly we can win it back to produce a forward pass.”
Lillis, the club's head of coaching development, has managed at Maidstone and also Lordswood, while he has been assistant manager at Whitstable and a coach at Folkestone under long-serving boss Neil Cugley.
He played for the Gills during the late 1980s and also played for Maidstone.
