Goalscoring striker John Marquis couldn’t be happier.
The 22-year-old frontman has been in a rich vein of form since arriving on loan from Millwall.
Tuesday’s winner against Peterborough was his fourth for the club in six outings.
“I have always believed in myself and always thought of myself as a goalscorer,” he said.
“It is about playing in the team that suits me and how I want to play.
“Things are going perfect for me at the moment. It is going well and I would play MK Dons tomorrow. I just want the games to come thick and fast.”
Championship side Millwall have allowed Marquis to join the Gills for the rest of the season.
He accepts his time with the Lions is over.
“I wouldn’t say I have had a point to prove,” he said.
“It is easy when things aren’t going well and you’re playing for a team not doing well to get down and miserable.
“I've always believed that if I got fit and played in the team things would go well.
“I had a couple of bad injuries and was out for almost a year and a half, not playing regularly. It takes me a few games to get fit and sharp.
“I've hit the ground running and it feels like it is coming back. I am feeling fitter game by game.
“I think my time at Millwall is done. I had a brief chat with the manager there and I am not in his immediate plans.
“I'm here until the end of the season and my contract is up. It can all change very quickly but I think my time is pretty much done there.
“I just want to be playing and showing people what I can do. I want to be playing football and scoring goals in a winning team.”
Marquis admitted the Gills “rode their luck” at times on Tuesday but was delighted to strike the winning goal with 11 minutes left.
“It was a well-worked goal,” he said.
“Jake (Hessenthaler) has given it to Glash and he gave it to me. I played it round the corner to Hess, he pulled it back and it was a nice finish.
“It was a little bit behind me but I got good contact on it and caught the keeper out unaware on his near post. It was a nice goal and it ended up being the winning one which is even nicer.”
