Gillingham are keen to have a better look at non-league giant Harry Smith but are facing competition from League 1 rivals Millwall.

The 21-year-old 6ft 6in Folkestone striker recently impressed on trial with Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen and came close to signing for them.

That deal fell through but he is due to train in pre-season with Millwall.

Gillingham had the striker in for a look last season but within minutes of a practice game the target-man got injured.

Boss Justin Edinburgh is keen to get the chance to see the striker at close quarters before making any move for the former Sittingbourne front-man.

Edinburgh said: “He came in to us last season and the poor lad picked up a muscle injury after five minutes.

“We spoke with Folkestone to bring him in and I think that is still the case, that we will have him at some time during pre-season. We didn’t have time to see him before.

“We know he can score goals and is capable at that level and we were ahead of the game, we knew about him, but he got injured at that time.”
