Antonio German wants to make it impossible for Gillingham boss Peter Taylor to leave him out of the team.
Substitute German rescued a point with an injury-time equaliser at Bradford on Saturday – and now he’s after a regular place in the side.
He said: “I’m 22 now and being potential is not what I want. I want to establish myself as a proper centre-forward at this level and hopefully I can do that.
“As a striker you do need a run of games. You need confidence and goals bring confidence and if you’re coming off the bench it’s very hard but hopefully I can get a run of games and see what happens.”
German admitted he’s the type of player who would knock on Taylor’s door to push his claim for a place but added: “I’d rather show him on the training pitch. I’d rather get to the point where he has to play me because I show that I’m doing all the right things."
German’s desire to prove himself will impress boss Taylor, who has questioned his attitude in the past.
He was sent on ahead of Danny Kedwell and Luke Norris at Valley Parade and justified his manager’s faith.
Taylor said: “He’s got to realise he’s got to get in the team and he’s got to start scoring goals. He’s a promising forward. He’s got a very good chance – he’s strong, he’s good in the air, he can finish and he needs matches, so it’s up to him."
