Facing a single boy in his age and weight class, Ebuwei quickly brought the fight under firm control.

Scoring a takedown to ground the action, Ebuwei out-grappled his opponent and locked in a triangle choke to force the submission and claim top honours.

Ben Hawkes, 11, also won gold for the Strood club after producing a dazzling performance.

He won his first two matches by submission (kimura and armbar respectively) and secured gold with a dominant display of technical jiu jitsu in the final, racking up a huge points haul of 18-0 plus three advantages to decisively conclude his march to the top of the podium.

Reggie Pye, 11, from Chatham collected silver with a solid effort. Winning his first match by kimura submission, Pye had a tough scrap in the final but narrowly lost on points to finish with a silver.

CSA kids instructor Sam Diplock, winner of the Pride In Medway sports coach of the year award this summer, said: “This was a very strong performance from Ben, the best I’ve seen him deliver on the competition mats.

“He has been training very hard for a long time now and is becoming an excellent junior jiu jitsu athlete.”

Lee Johnstone, CSA owner and head coach, said “It’s great to see the team back on the road after the pandemic. Ben and Noah both did really well to take gold, they’re coming along fantastically in the sport and will pick up many more wins in future.”

Also in action for the club were Charlie Grant and Nash Johnstone, who both won silver, Leo Grant, Kristofers Imertreis, Tabatha Karpenko and Elliott Cole, who all picked up a bronze medal.
