The goals will come, according to Gillingham’s hard-working striker Brandon Hanlan.

He did everything but score on Saturday as the Gills beat Scunthorpe 1-0.

“Every time I go on the pitch I try and give it 100%,” said Hanlan.

“We managed to get the win so I was happy with that. It would be lovely to score goals, too, but they will come, I just have to be patient.

“I have to keep doing the right things, keep getting in the right positions. Something will drop, hopefully I will go on a run.

“I have to keep doing everything else right on the pitch and the goals will come.”

Hanlan, with three goals in 30 appearances, never stopped running throughout, prompting questions from fans as to what he had for breakfast!

Porridge and bananas was the answer and his energetic weekend display certainly impressed manager Steve Lovell.

“All he needs is a goal,” Lovell said. “He just needs one to go in off his knee or something. He is doing everything but scoring at the moment, he was excellent.

“He is a good player and he just needs a couple of goals under his belt and it will push him on.”

Hanlan is currently keeping Elliott List out of the side. List came on with a few minutes left to help take the pressure off the defence.

“Elliott was very lively,” added Lovell. “It is nice to have a couple of boys like that in your squad and who knows, we might be able to play the two of them together at one stage.”

Up next for the Gills is a trip to Sunderland on Tuesday night and Hanlan can’t wait.

“I am buzzing to play there,” he said.

“You never know what can happen in this league, anyone can beat anyone and we go there with an open mind to try and come back with something.

“I will be positive, like every game, play to my strengths, getting in behind the defender and hopefully getting goals.”
