The transfer window is closed but Gillingham manager Neil Harris is keen to bring some free agents to the club.

Gillingham’s only addition on deadline day was midfielder Ben Thompson - replacing departed Kyle Dempsey in the midfield department - and Harris would like to further strengthen the squad if he can find a bargain or two.

The deadline for signing contracted players closed on Monday but anyone who was a free agent before that cut-off point is free to sign for a club.

“We would still like to add to the squad, if possible,” said Gillingham’s new manager, who got off to a winning start on Tuesday.

“There are not loads of options but there is a couple if we could and the chairman has been brilliant.

"If we can, we can, and if we can’t then we won’t, but I think we need a little more strength in depth, just to get us through the season, especially this busy period but as I have found out, it is not always that easy!

“There are free agents and sometimes you have to look at, are there fit, are they not, will they make an impact?”

Any deals will have to be within the constraints of their monitored loan agreement which limits spending and squad size. The Gills took out an emergency loan to see them through the Covid pandemic.
