Holcombe Hockey Club have confirmed the appointment of Kwan Browne as director of hockey and Men’s first team head coach.
Browne, capped more than 300 times by Trinidad and Tobago across a 26-year international career, will join the club in a new full-time role on a seven-year contract and will be departing his role as Head of Hockey at Mill Hill School.
The new appointment fills the void left by the, departing Barry Middleton who leaves after 11 years at the club.
Browne represented his country across a multitude of tournaments including the Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games and Pan American Cup.
On the appointment, Club President David South said: “I’m very pleased to get someone of Kwan's experience to replace Barry and in the new role as full-time Director of Hockey, we are certain that he will lay the base for the future development of players at the club.”
Browne added: “This is the beginning of an incredible journey, I am delighted to be offered the opportunity to be part of a club that's determined to be successful at the highest level while building a club environment that encourages development and enjoyment for all.
"As a hockey enthusiast, I feel incredibly fortunate and can't wait to see what the future holds."
Browne is also currently assistant coach to Paul Revington with England and Great Britain having been involved in the national set-up since 2008, becoming assistant coach for the Great Britain men’s senior team in 2019 after involvement across various age-group sides and then the Elite Development Programme.
The former Trinidad & Tobago captain has also won the Premier Division title as a player-coach as well as a number of promotions in both indoor and outdoor hockey.
That Premier Division triumph also allowed Browne to test himself in Europe at the prestigious Euro Hockey League (EHL), where he earned a first win for an English side against Dutch opposition in six years.
In terms of individual accolades, he has also won the England Hockey Performance Coach of the Year award once.
Further player and staff announcements will be made in due course.
Browne has also appointed Lucas Ball as Men’s 1s Manager following Keith Martin’s retirement after years of superb service to the club and the team.
Holcombe Women’s chair Karen Drake, meanwhile, has been selected as vice-captain in the South East over-45s squad for the Regional Area Tournament hosted by Bournemouth Hockey Club.
The South East side will play seven matches across the two days, starting this Saturday.
