Southern Counties East Premier Division strugglers Lordswood are looking for a new manager.

Neil Hunter announced his resignation from the job on social media on Thursday afternoon.

Hunter took over in May 2020, replacing Darren Anslow. He had previously been on the coaching staff at Erith & Belvedere and Beckenham Town. He was also part of the successful backroom team at Fisher that challenged for the Premier Division title two years ago.

His last game in charge was on Saturday, his side losing 4-1 at Erith & Belvedere.

Writing on Twitter, Hunter said: “I've resigned from the club and I'd like to thank every player that has put on a Lordswood shirt for me over the 13 games last season and the 20 odd this season it's been and absolute pleasure.

“I wish nothing but the best for the whole club going forwards.”

Lordswood are second from bottom in the Premier Division but had just come through a tough set of fixtures.

Speaking after the weekend defeat, Hunter had said: “Everyone is trying so hard. Crowborough we were pitiful (losing 6-0 the week before) but I think that was a backlash from the disappointment of the Sheppey game (losing 1-0 late on) because we had worked so hard to keep in that, without looking like scoring but we didn’t look like conceding.

“For that to happen on 89 minutes was quite a kick in the teeth and that took quite a bit out of them because we were flat in the changing room, I think everyone was because it was quite an effort.

“We regrouped on Saturday and Erith & Belvedere commented that we had a good little side. Little things just don’t seem to be falling for us.

“We have played the top three teams twice. We were unlucky against Erith Town, we battered them for a long period and they scored quite late on. I am completely optimistic we will get out of it. If we keep applying ourselves like we are, something has to give for us.”

Lordswood’s Vice Chairman, Paul Caulfield said: “We would like to thank Neil for all his efforts during his time with the club, it's disappointing that things haven't worked out the way we would have hoped for him, and we wish him all the very best."

Assistant manager Imran Englefield will take temporary charge of first team matters until a new manager is appointed.

Lordswood were due to play Punjab United this weekend but Covid cases in the camp has led to a postponement.
