Passion won’t be lacking in the final two months of Gillingham’s campaign.

That’s the message from manager Steve Evans after another busy afternoon on the touchline at Lincoln.

Evans and assistant boss Paul Raynor were appealing for every decision and kicking every ball on Saturday – the Gills manager overstepping the mark early on in the game to collect a yellow card from referee Tom Nield.

“You have to be with your troops on the side and you have to appeal for decisions,” said Evans.

“I got booked because I shouted for two decisions. I don’t understand how that happens and then I watched challenges that were X-rated.

“I’ll stand with my troops, I’ll fight for them, I’ll fight for them internally. The troops know I’m with them, I’m with them every day of the week and every hour of the day. I’m always talking one on one and having little meetings.

“We’re in this together and the supporters turn up in their numbers, they travel all round the country.

“They’ll go back on the coach disappointed as the performance wasn’t great and we didn’t pass it well enough but if you go back to June they never thought they’d be 15 games unbeaten and four points off the play-offs.”

The message from Evans is clear. If his players give everything they’ve got, then he’ll fight their corner all the way.

“They’ve given us everything and I’ll stand in front of them every day of the week,” added the Gills boss.

“If they don’t give us everything I’ve got no interest for them, I mean that.

“I have no interest for lads that don’t want to apply themselves right, don’t want to come into training and work hard, or don’t want to work extra.

“We’ve got a very spirited group and I’m proud of every one of them.

“I’m not going to say a bad word about this group. They’ve given us absolutely everything.”
