FA Cup winner Justin Edinburgh is determined to better his record in the competition as a manager.

Gillingham boss Edinburgh clinched a winner’s medal for Tottenham in 1991 and takes his promotion-chasing Gills to League 2 Stevenage on Saturday with an eye on experiencing some management cup joy.

Edinburgh said: “I have had some really good memories as a player, none more so than winning it and a few heartaches with defeats in semi-finals but perhaps I haven’t done quite so well as a manager.

“I have never reached where you would like to get as a manager, as a non-league manager or league manager.

“What I achieved as a player is irrelevant. It’s about what I achieve as a manager now.

“At this level it’s about trying to get to the third round and getting that big draw.

“First things first, we have a tough game against Stevenage.

“I know their league form isn’t great and I am sure they will be dangerous opposition on Saturday after a tough defeat at home (5-1 against Oxford).

“We all know that teams are a dangerous animal when they have had those kinds of defeats and all form goes out the window because it’s a cup game.”
