It was a learning curve for young Gillingham defender Jack Tucker at Fleetwood.

Boss Steve Evans wasn’t hiding away from the 20-year-old’s mistake that led to Fleetwood’s opening goal on Saturday.

Tucker was dispossessed inside the box by Kyle Dempsey and the hosts made the most of the chance by scoring.

The Gills levelled the match late on through Alex Jakubiak.

“He was at fault,” said Evans. “He will play a lot higher and he will learn from that.

"I think Ched (Evans) gave him a real tough afternoon, he will learn from that.

“Ched Evans is a Championship striker and there aren’t many clubs at this level who could afford him but Andy Pilley (the Fleetwood chairman) can.

“I thought as the game went on he was dealing with it more and more comfortably.

“He tried a little flick, he slipped, whatever it was, I said it was a mistake and he will have gone home really disappointed but he should do, he should care.

"As any supporter of a football club will know, if you aren’t disappointed then what are you? He wasn’t going home with a smile on his face was he?

“He will be back in Monday and we will remind him of the good parts of the game, show him some clips, how good a player he is, and he will learn from it.”
