Gillingham's management team are determined to prove the doubters wrong.

A win over Charlton at the weekend looks to have bought head coach Ady Pennock and his coaching staff a little longer in the job.

That win – Gills’ first in eight games – took them off the foot of League 1 but the pressure is still on as they head to fellow strugglers Rochdale on Saturday.

Coach Jamie Day said: “We know it’s a results business and it doesn’t matter if you put in all the work in the world – it is about winning games.

“If you don’t win games, then clubs in this day and age change management.

“Whatever happens, we will be positive and try to win as many as we can. If we keep winning, then we’ll be fine, if we don’t, then the pressure is always going to be
on.

“You want to prove people wrong and there are people who have opinions and they are never going to change.

“When people start doubting you and saying that you aren’t good enough, then you want to show them you are.

“You want to show what you are capable of doing and what you are doing is right.

“It is about proving people wrong and hopefully we do it, get the results and move up
the table. The Charlton win will give the boys and the fans as well, a boost and a bit of confidence going into Rochdale.

“We are pleased with Saturday’s performance, it was what was needed at this
time.”
