Gillingham have added another midfielder to their squad ahead of their weekend match with Charlton.
Free agent Jesse Starkey, 22, has signed a contract until January.
The 22-year-old played a game for Swindon at the end of last season, having previously been with Brighton.
Starkey completed a scholarship at Chelsea but failed to win a professional deal there, moving instead to Brighton, his hometown team.
He made four appearances for Brighton in the Checkatrade Trophy last season, but left in January without making a Football League appearance.
That came with new club Swindon, on the final day of last season. His contract at Swindon was terminated, however, in the early weeks of the new campaign to allow him to find a new club.
The Gills have yet to win a game in League 1 this season and host Charlton at Priestfield on Saturday.
