Cody McDonald admitted he was surprised to see fellow striker Danny Kedwell leave for Ebbsfleet.

But the 11-goal striker is sure that Kedwell will be a hit with the Conference South side.

McDonald, who has started eight games alongside Kedwell this season, said: “I saw it come up on facebook and I didn’t even know. It took me by surprise.

“Danny wants to play games and as a player that’s all you want to do.

“He has got the opportunity to go to Ebbsfleet and play some games. He will go there, do what he does and before you know it he will be back in the Football League.”

It’s a three-division drop for Kedwell, who scored five goals for the Gills this season in 18 appearances.

“It is a drop but Danny has been there before,” said McDonald.

“Ebbsfleet are a team that are touted to be in the Football League within a few years. He wants to be part of that journey and all credit to him.

“He will hopefully have a good go and we might be playing against him in a few years.”
