Leading scorer Danny Kedwell will soon find out the seriousness of his knee injury.

The 31-year-old, who has scored four goals in the opening seven games for Gillingham so far this season, missed Friday night’s 1-0 defeat at Coventry.

Further examinations on Monday should determine how many more games he is likely to miss.

Boss Peter Taylor said: “We will find out on Monday how serious it is. He had swelling on his knee and we were hoping it was just a kick but it looks as though there has been some kind of reaction. We are getting it checked out.”

Kedwell was out for almost four months at the end of last season, initially missing with a hernia problem and then suffering a knee injury in a reserve game. He ended the campaign by making only substitute appearances.

The Gills drew a blank at Coventry in his absence but Taylor refused to blame that on Kedwell’s injury.

He said: “There is no point in talking about people that didn’t play because you don’t know how they are going to play. I was delighted with the way the 14 bodies performed.”
