Leon Legge has joined League 2 Cambridge United on a two-year-deal.
The 29-year-old defender was released by Gillingham at the end of their season.
Legge was a regular starter for the Gills towards the end of the 2014/15 season but manager Justin Edinburgh decided against extending his contract.
Cambridge have been quick to snap up the centre-back, who was in talks with several clubs following his Gillingham exit.
Legge, speaking to Cambridge’s official website, said: “I’m very pleased to be coming to Cambridge United.
“I had a good talk with both (manager) Richard Money and Jez George (chief executive) and we spoke in detail about where they wanted to take the club and where it is heading.
“The supporters and everything about the club appealed to me which is why this is the club I have chosen in the end.
“Cambridge was the one that felt right for me.”
He played 92 times for the Gills and helped them win the League 2 title under Martin Allen.
“Hopefully I can share that experience with other lads in the side,” he said.
“It is a new chapter for me in my career and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the lads and get going.”
