Invicta Dynamos head coach Karl Lennon reacts to weekend defeats at Streatham Redhawks and against Slough Jets

Head coach Karl Lennon could take the positives out of back-to-back defeats for Invicta Dynamos.

The Mos were beaten twice over the weekend 9-2 at Streatham Redhawks and 4-1 at home to Slough Jets - two teams who could be fighting for top position in NIHL South Division 1 this season.

Their match against Slough was a particularly emotional one as both teams paid tribute to Tyler Hatfield, a junior player for Jets, who’s died, aged just three.

Lennon said: “I said to a lot of their players, credit to them.

“The fact they even went ahead and played was impressive because they easily could have taken more time to process it all. I’m sure it’s something they agreed with the family beforehand.

“Obviously, it was frustrating for us but, in the circumstances, we cannot be too disappointed.”

While Callum Burnett got Dynamos’ goal against Slough, it wasn’t enough, with the Medway outfit largely having been undone at Streatham, as tempers frayed.

Lennon said: “We started really well on Saturday.

“I think we played the first 35 minutes really well and it was 2-2.

“Then, we got a major penalty. Someone got five minutes for fighting - although they didn’t really fight.

“In ice hockey, five minutes is a huge amount of time and that saw us a way behind, which was so frustrating.

“Against a team like that, you cannot give them any kind of advantage - and we did. They kind of caught us on the break and it ended 9-2.

“But up until the penalty, we played some really good hockey. Then, we played Slough on Sunday - they’re another team at the top-end of the table.

“There was an impeccable applause for Tyler before the game. When anything like that happens in your sport, it resonates with you a bit more. We send our condolences to Tyler’s family.

“The game itself was fairly even. We were 1-1 until the last four minutes of the game when they got a goal out of nothing.

“We had to work so hard for our goal because their keeper was so good. We then conceded again and an empty-net goal after that.

“There were positives to take from the games over the weekend, but we just didn’t get the results.”
