Peter Taylor described Harry Lennon as “first class” following his debut at Colchester.
The on-loan central defender came into the team for the first time after watching from the bench in Gillingham’s last three league games.
“He can be delighted with his debut,” said Taylor, who is keen for the Charlton youngster to extend his stay beyond the current January 3 deal.
“I thought he was first class. He headed it at the right times, made some good tackles and used the ball exceptionally well.”
Leon Legge had to make way for Lennon and the 20-year-old fitted in well, helping to repel Colchester during a busy second half at the Community Stadium.
“Now people will understand why I have been pleased to have him and want to keep him,” said Taylor.
“He had a really good debut and I know Charlton were there looking at him. I am sure they are pleased.”
