Gillingham FC captain Doug Loft predicts upturn in fortunes after Johnstone's Paint Trophy win over Crawley Town
00:00, 14 November 2014
Doug Loft opened his Gillingham goal account in the midweek win over Crawley Town - and he’s now hoping to see the goals fly in from all departments.
Loft said: “There is a lot of belief in our dressing room and we know we haven’t been on the best run of late.
“We have been playing well but we just haven’t been scoring. When that comes, we will be a threat. Now I think we will kick on and put a few wins together.
“It was a good win (on Tuesday) and everyone went away buzzing. Hopefully, we will take it into Saturday’s game against Leyton Orient."
Though Loft’s midweek winner was his first for Gills, he scored nine goals for Port Vale last season.
He said: “I am confident of getting them again this year.”
Last season’s promotion chasers Orient have struggled this season but Loft, who faced them with Vale, knows not to take them lightly.
He said: “I always like playing against them. They were a brilliant side last year – probably one of the best in the league.
"They haven’t lost a lot of players, so we know they will give us a good game.”
