The Shouting Men: Gillingham captain Doug Loft writes exclusively for the KM Group

00:00, 03 October 2014

The way we lost to Sheffield United was tough to take but we’ll learn from it.

We’ve got a good young group here and it’s on a learning curve. It’s up to us to not let it happen again and I’m sure we will be stronger for it.

Everyone was devastated at the end of the game but we’ve worked hard this week. We’ve stuck together and we’ll go again.

Notts County will be tough and since their manager Shaun Derry has gone there, he’s done a good job.

It will be a harder place to go than last Saturday at Bramall Lane but we’ll be trying to get the three points.

I’m happy to be back after a month out injured. It was frustrating to have got the injury because I came here and wanted to hit the ground running. I did pre-season but then injured my Achilles. I couldn’t do anything and literally couldn’t walk.

I have to limit my training at the moment but I am fit for the games and since coming back against Peterborough, I’ve been fine. I am 100% fit.

We’ve played a few teams now and it looks like Bristol City are the team to beat in League 1.

They had a poor start last season but you could tell last year they had a good team and just needed a few additions.

I have spoken to a few boys who have met them while playing for other sides and they said they are the team to beat.

They play the best football and have made some good signings, including former Gills player Luke Freeman. I am looking forward to playing against them.

The best team I have faced so far were probably MK Dons but I was out injured for the Swindon game and they are also a good team.
