Chatham Town Women play Rugby Borough this Sunday with manager Keith Boanas hoping his side cut out the defensive errors

Chatham Town Women return to league action on Sunday and manager Keith Boanas will be hoping they can cut out the errors at the back.
A tough trip awaits when they head to Rugby Borough but with three straight cup wins behind them and a draw at Cheltenham last time they played in the league, there will be confidence in the ranks.

Those cup wins have seen Chats score 12, but they’ve conceded a few, too.
Boanas said: “We have conceded seven and that’s something we need to work hard on. We need to stop conceding. I have seen too many being basic errors rather than being outplayed.
“I wouldn’t say I am a defensive coach but I see defending as an art. I take a lot of pride in keeping clean sheets and being married to a goalkeeper as well, I know how important clean sheets are. If you can keep them, then you can always win a game.”
The message to the players before their weekend game in the Women’s FA Cup against AFC Wimbledon was about keeping it tight but they conceded early. They came back to lead 4-1, conceded three more, then won with a stoppage-time penalty.
Boanas said: “We talked about it before the game, about what had happened in the other games, not scoring early with chances created and going behind. The big message was clean sheet and then go on from there.
“That is the way we went out but the way the first goal was given away was again really disappointing, really poor and errors again.
“We had come back from the other games so I wasn’t going to panic, although it might be different against higher opposition and that’s no disrespect to AFC Wimbledon, because they have some great players, but I knew it wasn’t over and we scored three really good goals, all different types as well.”
