Joe Martin returns from suspension this weekend – but his route back into the team may be blocked.

On-loan defender Adam Chicksen has impressed since arriving as temporary cover for the left-back.

Martin received a red card at Crawley in the last round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Chicksen, who arrived on loan from Brighton, has started the last three games in Martin’s absence and may well keep his place on Saturday when the Gills meet Leyton Orient.

Taylor said: “If I have got a loan player here, I appreciate them coming here. It doesn’t mean that just because I have a player on a permanent deal, I am just going to bomb the loan player out.

“Chicksen has played well and it will be a good fight. It’s another ‘Harry Hill moment’. It should be a good contest.”

One way Martin could get back in is if Chicksen is moved to right-back at the expense of Gavin Hoyte. Chicksen has played there for Brighton.

“That is something I can think about,” added Taylor. “One thing is for sure, Chicksen is a good defender.”
