Louis Greene is heading back to Poland next month and has been warming up by sparring Conor Benn.

British no.2 welterweight Benn (17-0) puts his unbeaten record on the line this Saturday with a tricky match-up against Samuel Vargas at Wembley.

Greene, from Strood, hasn’t fought since losing to Lewis Crocker for the vacant World Boxing Organisation European title in August last year. He’s been putting Benn through his paces while keeping himself in top condition.

It will be the second time Greene has tackled an opponent in Poland, returning from in Czestochowa in October 2019 victorious after inflicting a first and only loss for Lukasz Wierzbicki (19-1).

Przemyslaw Runowski is currently the no.1 welterweight in Poland and he’s up next for the ‘Medway Mauler’.

The fight has already been delayed twice because of Covid issues in Poland but a new date of May 14 has now been set with both camps working towards that date.

Father and trainer John Greene said: “Przemyslaw is a good fighter, he has only lost once, to Josh Kelly two years ago.

“The fight has been postponed a couple of times but sparring with Benn has got him sharp and his mind back focussed.”

Greene remains in the mix with the leading British welterweights and with some top fighters all vying for honours it could be an interesting time for the division.

He’ll be hoping for another eye-catching display in Poland when it comes around.
