Medway Ladies clinched the Women’s National Challenge South East 1 title at the weekend – but won’t be easing off in their final game.

They travel to Beccehamian this Sunday aiming to end their regular season with a win ahead of their promotion play-off.

Medway player-manager Charly Ward said: “This game is as important as any other and we want to finish the league on a high. We don’t want to lose our final game.”

Medway have enjoyed a memorable season so far, improving on their third-place finish last season and winning a crucial match at Canterbury a fortnight ago.

They won that top-of-the-table clash 15-0, their first win at Canterbury in eight years. An 81-0 win over Ashford at home on Sunday secured them the league crown.

Ward said: “Our aim this season was promotion, 100%. After finishing third last year we knew we could finish top.

“Canterbury was a big test and winning there was a great feeling. Sealing it against Ashford was a massive achievement.”

Ashford had been the only team to beat Medway in the league this season.

“We had to show them that was a fluke,” said Ward, who noted that they had eight players missing for that game back in December.

Medway are chasing a second promotion in three seasons after climbing out of National Challenge 2 in 2016.

Their promotion play-off is scheduled for Sunday, April 15, which will be against the winners of London & South East 1 currently being led by the Old Elthamian Ladies.
