Match-winner Aaron Morris believes Tuesday’s cup win gives Gillingham an edge over Yeovil Town.
Just four days after dumping the Somerset side out of the Capital One Cup, the two sides meet again at Priestfield in League 1.
Morris thumped home the winner at Huish Park to send the Gills into round two of the competition. But both sides are eager to make amends for opening-day league defeats.
Morris said: “It’s a strange one to be playing them again but I think it will give us a big confidence boost that we have gone there and got a result
“Why can’t we do it again at the weekend?”
The Gills started their season with a 4-2 defeat at MK Dons – having been 2-0 up – in a game which saw Morris make his competitive debut.
“We were really disappointed with the result on Saturday,” said the former AFC Wimbledon player.
“The gaffer said we had to put it right. Our first priority was to get the win and the manner in which we did it (on Tuesday) showed a lot of character from the boys.”
