It’s the final day of the transfer window and Gillingham are yet to reveal their management plans.

Caretaker boss Steve Lovell said on Saturday that he was keen for a decision to be made on whether he was wanted until the end of the season, or not. It's rumoured he has already gone. There has been no announcement from the club so far but former Cardiff and Millwall boss Neil Harris may be the next preferred option.

Bromley boss Andy Woodman - Gills’ previous target - was officially ruled out of the running on Sunday after his club issued a statement saying he had “decided to remain at Hayes Lane and concentrate on the job at hand.”

With Bromley challenging for a place in the Football League and Gillingham on course for relegation to League 2, there is a chance Woodman could be heading to Priestfield with his South London side next season.

Harris, who was sacked by Cardiff City a year ago, has been among the list of potential candidates from day one and has apparently been interviewed for the job. He’s often been a visitor to Priestfield over the years and knows the club well. He spent a season with the Gills as a player during the 2005/06 season, in the same team as Michael Flynn, who has also been linked to the job.

Chairman Paul Scally is under pressure to act, with current caretaker boss Lovell saying on Saturday that he needed clarity on his position while the fans are also keen for a decision to be made.

Lovell has been involved in transfer dealings so far and if Harris, or someone else, comes in now they haven’t got long to make any changes to the squad. The transfer window closes at the end of today (Monday).

“We need to get players in,” said Lovell on Saturday. He has his own plans in place if Scally opts to keep things as they are.

“I have lists and lists and targets to bring in and if I am here Monday then I will be working hard to try and get them in ready for Tuesday (at home against Crewe).”

It’s been three weeks since Steve Evans departed.

Lovell says it was his decision to allow both Rhys Bennett and John Akinde to leave while bringing in QPR loan defender Conor Masterson.

On those players who have left, Lovell said: “If they weren’t my kind of players then there is no point of them being here, it is not fair to them as players, they need to go and play elsewhere. They weren’t going to be in the starting eleven and they want to play games, it is best. There could be a few more going out and a few more in, we will see how the weekend pans out.”
