A new date has been agreed for the Folkestone Coastal 10k race.

The popular event was due to take place on Sunday, May 31 but was postponed due to the coronavirus crisis.

The race will commence from the former Coastal Park near the Leas lift lower station, on the Folkestone seafront, setting off at 10am on Sunday, September 6.

A children’s race with chipped timings will also be included.

Last year’s race was a great success, with 750 runners participating and £40,000 raised for good causes, much of which benefited the local community.

The 10k run heads to towards Hythe and is a flat promenade route, traffic free. The participation limit is 1,000.

Race director Ray Johnson said: “I look forward to a great event on September 6. It’s an excellent opportunity to raise monies for a chosen registered charity and keep fit at the same time.

“It’s a great race for those who are relatively new to running, but also for those more experienced, looking for a good personal best.

“We are enormously grateful for the support received so far, with the event being supported by various sponsors, including The Roger De Hann Charitable Trust, East Kent College, Independent Insurance Services, Metroline Security and Alliance Building. We are also looking for further sponsorship and prizes.”

Money raised will go to charities such as the Folkestone Ghurkha Community, Touchbase, Shepway Sports Trust, Home Farm Trust, Folkestone Youth Project and local Rotary Clubs.

Over the years the event has raised £286,000 in total for charities.

Applications can be downloaded here. Pre-race entry fee is £17 for affiliated runners and £19.00 un-affiliated or £22 on the day. The children’s race will be £2.
