Gills boss Ady Pennock is in the dark about rumours linking Nolberto Solano to his job.

Gillingham had been linked with a move for the former Newcastle United midfielder Nolberto Solano on Friday night.

But Pennock, when contacted by KentOnline, said he was unaware of being replaced.

Peruvian Solano, 42, who played 95 times for his country, was widely being tipped to take over as manager from under-fire boss Pennock.

Pennock has been in charge of the Gills since January, narrowly winning a relegation scrap at the end of last season, on the final day.

Results haven’t improved this season, with no wins in their first seven in the league, ahead of the match against Charlton on Saturday.

Pennock has steadfastly refused to quit and will only leave if asked to do so by chairman Paul Scally.

The Gills are currently bottom of League 1 but on Tuesday night, after a 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon, Pennock shed some light on the challenges they face, as one of the lowest paying clubs in the division.

Pennock will take charge of the game against Charlton, whatever happens.

He’ll have an extra player at his disposal after signing another midfielder on the eve of that game.

Former Gills no.2 Ian Hendon, who previously worked at the club under Andy Hessenthaler, had also been reportedly part of a new management team.

Hendon was at the Wimbledon game on Tuesday night and was seen speaking to Mr Scally.
