Saturday’s wonder-goal by Luke Norris was a show of intent from the striker.
The summer signing admitted he hasn’t hit top form since joining Gillingham from Brentford.
Norris said: “I am pleased (with the goal) because I think I got off to a slow start here.
“I did okay at Stevenage and thought I did okay when I came on against Newcastle but in the games I have played I haven’t been happy with myself. I don’t think the fans have been either.
“Hopefully I can kick on from here and get a few more.”
Norris arrived at the Gills with just a handful of appearances to his name, but loan spells with Northampton and Dagenham had produced goals. There was expectation on the 21-year-old after arriving at Priestfield and he admits that wasn’t easy.
He said: “I think it’s quite hard when forwards come to clubs. There is a hell of a lot expected and that’s rightly so, but I feel I did start off really slow.
“Last season I went on loan to clubs in League 2 and I was scoring. I was enjoying my time and it’s a bit different here. It has taken me a while to get going.
“Fans want to see forwards score goals and if I can score a few more then hopefully everyone can get behind me. Hopefully there will be a lot more.”
