That’s Big V’s winning goal on Tuesday insisted Gillingham manager Steve Evans.
Leading scorer Vadaine Oliver had initially been awarded the goal - which is the way it was first reported - before replays suggested Stuart O’Keefe got the final touch, albeit a slight one off the back. The Gills beat Doncaster 1-0 with that effort.
The Press Association said O’Keefe scored, with an assist from Oliver. That’s the way it will stand on the official records unless the Gills make a request to get it changed.
Who scored mattered little on the night, but Evans felt his striker deserved it. It would be Oliver's sixth of the season.
Evans said: “I think in the dressing room it is V’s goal, I think he has headed it and Stuart has made an attempt.
“I am giving it to V, he has won a fantastic header.”
Oliver is certainly claiming it as his sixth of the season, saying he was “baffled” that O’Keefe had been given it.
There was also debate about the season's opening goal, with Oliver and Danny Lloyd both in the mix for the equaliser against Lincoln City. That went to Lloyd.
