Medway made amends for November’s defeat to Old Reigatian with a 63-17 thrashing in the return Regional 2 South East fixture - their biggest victory of the season.

The win, a sixth in succession for Medway, saw the sides swap places in the standings with the hosts now third.

Jordan Stubbington opened the floodgates after four minutes thanks to Max Bullock’s pass, Owen Church-Mills with the extras, and try No.2 soon followed with contributions from Deji Oyesola, John Sipawa, Mac Perry and Conor Chalmers before Bullock touched down. Once more Church-Mills topped up the five points.

Reigatian got on the scoreboard with a penalty three minutes before half-time but Medway pulled further clear when excellent teamwork put Jonah Hyde through and Church-Mills converted.

A second-half yellow card for a high tackle left Medway short for a few minutes but they remained in charge. John Sipawa scored the next try - a scorcher in the corner after many phases - and Church-Mills made it four out of four from the tee.

Player-of-the-day Bullock, from skipper Antony Clement’s pass, then added a solo score with the reliable Church-Mills accurate as ever with the conversion, while Tom Beaumont was next over the whitewash for Medway’s sixth try and a 42-3 lead.

The Old Boys found their own way over the try line for the game’s next score, their converted effort adding seven points with 15 minutes to play.

Lewis Utchanah came on for his first-team debut, replacing Sipawa, and made a difference with his role in Clement’s try - Medway’s seventh - the extras pushing the hosts towards 50 points. Utchanah went one better, though, with a touchdown, before Church-Mills’ latest conversion made it 56-10.

The visitors caught their hosts napping for their second try, but Todd Johnson bulldozed his way over for the home team’s ninth, the extras rounding off an impressive display.

Medway travel to league leaders Battersea on Saturday (3pm).
