New signing Paul Konchesky believes he is joining a team with a good chance of promotion this season.
The experienced former England international needed little persuading to join the Gills, taking just three days to conclude a deal following initial discussions last Tuesday.
Konchesky said: “It happened quite quickly. I had been training on my own, doing bits and pieces with other people, then I got a call from the (Gillingham) manager one day. Two days later I am signing for them and ready to go for the season.
“I just want to get the season started now. I am here to play and win.
“The boys last year and even more so this year, they have the ability to get promoted and I want to be in a successful team. I can add my experience and hopefully we can go a long way this year.”
Gillingham missed having experienced faces around the squad last season and Konchesky certainly brings a vast amount of that.
Konchesky said: “I bring in a bit of know-how and will try to help the young ones through on and off the pitch.
“It is all right being good on the pitch but they also need to know what is good off the pitch as well.
“If I can help, along with the other senior players and the manager, I will but first and foremost I want to play and do well for the team. That will come.
“I want to play and win games. The club want to be successful and I want to be part of it.”
