There were mixed emotions for Gills boss Steve Lovell after picking up a point against Doncaster.

The Gills led 2-0, were then pegged back to 2-2, looked to have won it with a late goal from Max Ehmer but then conceded a stoppage time third as the game finished level.

Lovell said: “We scored three very good goals, but on the flip side we conceded three, and that is the disappointing thing.

Report: Doncaster 3 Gillingham 3

“When you score three you expect to win games but it is a point and the way our luck has been going had we played another few minutes we would have most probably lost the game.

“I am pleased with the way the players gave everything, I can’t fault that, it is just sometimes we could have used the ball better but when you are hanging on at 2-2 and then go 3-2 up, you expect to win it, but never mind, there is always Tuesday.”

Gillingham were defending for much of the game, scoring from the three shots they had in the match.

“It was gutsy performance from us,” said the manager.

“Going 2-0 up against a good side, we knew they would throw everything at us but we dealt with it well, but when your luck’s out, your luck’s out.”

Doncaster pulled level with both goals coming from corner kicks.

Lovell said: “To concede two goals inside the area, when the ball is bouncing around and then a third which is a deflected goal. It is going into Tomas Holy’s hands but Max (Ehmer), inadvertently, gets a touch on it and it’s deflected in. Our luck is out.

“Our three goals were brilliant goals, three great goals but the goals teams are scoring against us are not great goals, they are falling into areas where we should be clearing it.

“I am so disappointed for the boys because they put in such an effort, to score three goals away from home you expect to win the game.”
