Gillingham manager Steve Lovell felt his side deserved something against Blackpool.

Gills missed several first-half chances and paid the price as Nathan Delfouneso's header gave Pool a 1-0 victory.

Lovell said: "We worked hard enough and we gave everything.

"There wasn't much between the two teams tonight.

"Conditions had a lot to do with it - it was very windy out there - and they took their chance and we had a number that we didn’t take, so they win the game. It happens in football.

"With the last couple of wins we’ve had, we’ve scored early on and gone on to get two or three more.

"When Connor Ogilvie's hit the bar and DJ Oldaker's had a shot and Tom Eaves has had an effort, they’re not going in.

"But you’ve got to dig in and if it means it’s going to be 0-0 at the end of the night, it’s 0-0, but we concede just after half-time again which is annoying.

"It’s happened a couple of times this year. There’s no rhyme or reason for it, it’s just the way it is.

"There wasn’t much in the game.

"They were decent from set plays, they’ve got some big lads in the team and I thought that was the only threat to us.

"The majority of the game, I thought we were in control but we never found that little bit of quality in the final third that we’ve had in the last couple of games, but it’ll come back."

Blackpool arrived at Priestfield on a run of three defeats and Lovell praised them for seeing out the win after pinching the lead.

He said: "They did manage the game well and they held on for their win and they defended well.

"They stuck their bodies in when they had to and the keeper made a great save from Elliott List at the end which could have got us the point, which I think we deserved at least.

"But fair play to them, they’ve had a busy few weeks on the road, tough games and they went and got the three points.

"Just talking to them downstairs, it’s important for them.

"They’ve had a bit of a bad run and for them to get the three points lifts them."
